Why do I need a network password to send and not receive emails?

I am using my laptop at a modem (serving an number of computers) and when I
connect by ethernet, I can receive emails just using outlook normally, but
when I try to send emails it keeps asking for a network password as it
displays my server name, email address and password. I update these
correctly, tick the box 'save settings' and then try to continue. However, it
does not work. What do I need to do?
