Why do i have a black line running down my left margin intermiten

I believe you have the "Track Changes" activated. Try "Accept all changes"
or just turn off the track changes for the document and see if that works.

Sounds like a change bar. Do you have Track Changes enabled, or are there
any tracked changes ("markup") in the document?
