why do emails show up in my todo bar?

I upgraded from outlook 2000 to outlook 2007. I noticed that I am seeing
emails in my todo bar and wondering how I get rid of those or keep those from
showing?

I only want to see open tasks that I need to complete

The To Do bar shows Tasks and Calendar events. it doesn't show e-mail.
