Why displaying formats ???

When I type a website "www.____" into a word document, the following automatically shows up in my document { HYPERLINK "http://______"

The same thing is happening when I insert a shape into a word document... it displays {shape \* mergeformat } instead of the actual shape..

Is there some sort of setting that I need to change. I don't recall changing anything that would have caused this - - but then again I'm not sure what's wrong, so I might have ????

Please help !
