Why didn't my computer log off after ten minutes?

I have my machine set up to log off after ten minutes of idle time.
That didn't happen, and the silly thing stayed on while I was gone for
almost six hours.

The only thing happening was that Adobe Reader was not closed out.
There was nothing in Reader, however, and I wasn't connected to any
PDF on a website.

What am I missing? What made this happen?
 
There is a reason no one has responded to this yet. The question is
confusing. Your PC won't shut off or your PC shuts off except adobe reader?
It either shuts down or it doesn't shut down. Now which is it?
