why can't I see the fill coloring in MS Word on-screen?

I create a box from the drawing tool and then fill it with a color from the
drawing tool. It prints with the proper colors, but is only "white" on my
monitor.

Click on Start | Control Panel | Accessibility Options | Display
| uncheck the "Use high contrast" box | OK.
