Why can't I see 2000 Powerpoint pics in Powerpoint 2003

I open a Powerpoint 2000 presentation with pictures, but when I open it up in
2003 only some of the pictures are displayed. They are shown as a white box
with a red X, instead.

Have you applied the required updates to PPT 2003? Do Help--> Check for
updates and follow the links on Office Online.

Yes I have all of the updates and am 'good to go', in 2003 the slides are
shown with the background and text viewable on the slide and some of the
slides DO have the pictures that were inserted but about 3/4 of the slides
are missing the picture. Any other suggestions?
