Why can't I rename my WINDOWS folder?

S

Stephen

Hi

Sometime ago I ended up with 4 copies of
XP Home on my system (after a problem reinstalling XP).

I have removed 3 copies but I am left with my OS
named WINDOWS.2 instead of just WINDOWS

(WINDOWS.2 - was named by XP automatically)

When I right click to 'rename' the folder the
'rename' is not an option.

Is there any way round this?

Many thanks, Stephen

If you did somehow manage to rename it, the system wouldn't work, since all
of the pointers in the registry and elsewhere would be looking for Windows2.

If it really bugs you, the only way around it is to reinstall. Might as well
format, you'd have to reinstall all your programs anyway.
