Why cant I log into my site to edit

G

Guest

I am new to FrontPage 2003. I had my site built by a web design company but
now I want to make some changes myself. I have the user ID and Password to
get into my site but it does not work. The web design company says they can
get in but for some reason I cant. They even reset my password but it still
will not let me in. I have uninstalled FrontPage and reinstalled it with no
luck. I can open my site in front page but when I enter the Username and
Password I cant get in. Any ideas? I have used the online help pages with no
luck. Is there a trick to this or something I am missing. The web design
company used FrontPage to build my site. Please help!

Hopefully the design company knew to publish your site with http mode (if
the server had the server extensions) otherwise you'll need to reinstall the
FP extensions or get the host to (unless the design company is your host?).

If they used FTP they have broken the extensions and you'll never get to log
on through HTTP mode.

What exact errors are you getting when the logon fails?

If the live/remote site has the FP extensions, you would not use the import function. You would open
the site in FP via File Menu | Open Web / Site and then use File Menu | Publish Web / Site to place
a copy back on your local PC.

When I try to do it that way it says the file isn't accessiable. It can be in
another location or protected by a password.

I have tried to open my site through my browser by using file, edit with
FrontPage also and it just keeps asking me for my user ID and password over
and over. It never takes it.

(I dont have a copy of my site on my hard drive)

Post the URL to the website.

Have you contacted your web host regarding this issue?

I am confused by this sentence in your original post: " I can open my site
in front page but when I enter the Username and
Password I cant get in."

What do you mean? If you can open the website in Frontpage you ARE in -
especially since you said you don't have a local copy yet.

Outline the exact steps you are taking to open your site live on the server:

| Yes...I have contacted the web hosting company with no luck. They reset my
| password but it did not help.

| Here is my website

Rob when I try to open my site this way: FP via File Menu | Open Web / Site
It shows connectiong to web server, then it ask for my user name and
password, when I enter my information it says I dont have permission..do I
want to open a read only copy, if I enter yes it will open the site in
FrontPage and the box keeps poping up asking me for my user name and password
again, but it still will not accecpt my information, I can exit the log in
box out and I will have my home page on FrontPage.

Thanks...sorry for the confusion

You need to contact your web host to verify your FP login info, which can be different from a FTP
login.

Ah ok now I see what you mean.

Your host doesn't have your http un/pw correct and note that un/pw is not
always the same as your ftp un/pw - and you shouldn't use FTP if your web is
FP extended or you will break the extensions.
