Why can't I convert a PowerPoint slide show into a DVD movie?

gormie

I have searched high and low for months and I have yet to figure out
how to successfully convert a slideshow into a DVD movie.

I thought by simply converting it into a PowerPOint presentation show
or Quicktime movie would work, but it hasn't. The custom animations
don't work, the sound files don't play, and those that do play the
volume can't be adjusted for some reason.

I tried "powerpoint-to-dvd" and quite frankly I was totally
dissatisfied with its results. The animations were not free-flowing
like it would perform on a typical slide show. The movies embedded in
the slides were not working properly. The sound files did not play.

I tried it on a Mac. Didn't work.

I tried it on Windows. Didn't work either.

I looked at Captivate (Macromedia) but that was way over my head.

I called a couple of local companies that specialize in duplicating and
creating DVDs, but they had no clue about converting PowerPoint slide
shows onto a DVD.

I went to various forums, such as Microsoft support discussion thread,
I googled PowerPoint tutorials...

....and I am still stuck with a PowerPoint presentation.

HEEELLLLP!!!!!!!!!!! I am getting to the point of giving up entirely!

Is there SOMEONE out there who can speak to me in PLAIN ENGLISH how to
do this supposedly simple process?????

There is nothing simple about it. You've joined others of us who find
PowerPoint-to-DVD unsatisfactory. There are two ways I would recommend trying.
One is to do a screen capture using Camtasia. See
http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpoint-to-dvd.htm.

The other way that is hardware based is to use a DVD recorder. The prices have
dropped and they are now widely available. You attach it to a TV *and* to your
graphics card on your system, set it to record and then play your slide show on
the PC. It's dependent upon your graphics card having the right connectors, so
see http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/recordvhs.htm because the
principles are the same.

The truth of it is that if you want a quality output your going to find all
the solutions less than satisfactory. There simply isn't anyway to to do it
and get high quality.

Actually your suggestion is the best way to do it, but best in this case....
