Why are my 2000 files showing 0 KB in MyDocuments?

Yesterday, while preparing a Christmas newsletter, I tried to scan an old
newsletter, with inserted picture, to HP Photo&Imaging Gallery and then send
to Word. I had a text document "up" in Word at the time. When the file showed
up, I got the message "AutoRecovery will not work on this document" I later
found that the size of the text document that was "up" when I did this had
grown from a normal 30KB or so to 57,505KB! Since then all my work has
resulted in a "Size" of 0KB. I don't want to get out of word until I print
all my Christmas newletters, so I don't know now whether the "0KB" files will
come up OK later.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

This sounds like the work of a virus!

Thank you, Graham. However, my regularly scheduled Norton AntiVirus complete
scan ran Friday night and found no viruses. This was after my Friday work. On
Saturday, I then tried a short note on Word and, again, I got 0KB. Then, just
fooling around, I turned off the "Allow Background Saves" feature. I then
typed another short test note, and got the normal 19KB file size! After
completing my newsletter printing, I exited Word and, when I brought it up,
all the 0 KB files were indeed nothing.
Thanks again-any other thoughts?
