Why are message boxes never big enough?

Every time I open a message box I have to move some column so I can read it.
Can Windows never remember the size of a resized column?
Can Windows never open a box big enough so one doesn't have to resize it?
Why doesn't it automatically size the column for the widest entry?

Column of what?

Column of what?

Columns in Windows Explorer, Task Manager, or any program. You would
think that Win2k would size the column for the widest entry in that column.

Explorer|View|Details Then Explorer|Tools|Folder Options|View, then "Apply
To All Folders". Depending on your likings, you may also need to check
"Remember each folder's view settings"

Have you discovered the Ctrl-Alt-Plus keyboard shortcut? The + needs to be
the one on the numeric keypad.

MessageBoxes are usually not resizeable. What you are describing is column width in the right-hand side pane in Windows Explorer. That cannot be permently set. Even if it could it won't last long.

By default up to 400 different views can be saved.

? I tried it in Windows Explorer and nothing happened. What is it
supposed to do besides being a shortcut for Print Screen?

I also doubt that will work in Windows 2000. Trouble is you could set the number of folders where you would like things to stay the same but then how do we know a specific folder is going to be included in that number of folders? Seems a strange reg setting to me. Also that key:

HKCU\Software\Microsft\Windows\Shell

DNE in Windows 2000.

It is not supposed to be a print-screen shortcut. Are you using a notebook
that doesn't have a numeric keypad?

What is supposed to happen is that the columns should automatically resize
to accommodate the longest item in each column.

Oli

The last 400.

If it doesn't exist then try ADDing it. Your version of IE may also play
into this.

The system has to be set up to understand it Dave. There are lots of keys in Windows XP and Windows 2003 that do not exist in Windows 2000. Many of those keys you can add and values if you choose to but do nothing for Windows 2000 will not understand them. Of course it will probaly do no harm adding it but at that level of the registry I wouldn't do it.

It still works. The registry entry is only if you need to increase above
~400. Explorer|Tools|Folder Options|View, then "Like Current Folder". Also
check "Remember each folder's view settings"

First off, you deleted the post so others have no idea what you're
talking about.
No. My numeric keypad works fine. MVP top poster? C'mon now.

Weird. Always worked for me.
Can you explain exactly what program I should use it in and what its
supposed to do? The premise sounds great. And can you bottom post so
the thread isn't messed up pleeeeeeez? :)

Trimming being the key in that respect.
