Who can answer this? I know someone can!

I posted earlier and didn't get a response... so let's try this again.

I just upgraded to FP2003 from FP2002. I am having problems with FP
changing my code. It is adding extra characters which causes this characters
to show up on my site, where my customers see it. It is gibberish, and
shouldn't be there. I delete it, then hit save, and right before my eyes it
adds the extra characters again. This particular page I have to rename to a
..html file to edit it. After I am done editing, and have saved & closed the
page, then I rename it back to a .php file.

The extra characters show up right above my "Live Help" table.

https://host294.ipowerweb.com/~bowsbyha/shop/bbh/sc-bin/details1.php

I reinstalled FrontPage 2002 and opened a file that had not been opened in
FP2003, and it is fine... so this is just a FP2003 issue.

The only way I can get around this in FP2003 is to NOT use FP2003!

There has to be a way to preserve my html code in FP2003. Please~ someone
help me.

The problem is when I delete them, they reappear once I click "save". If I
just open it in notepad I can delete & save the characters. But I bought FP
to make my life easier! So far, it isn't working out at all.

Thanks for your comment. =) Anyone else want to take a shot?

You apparently have that stupid disable right click code in there, so cannot
check source to see where it comes from without a hassle.

You do not need to "right click" to view the source of any webpage.. the
alternate way is very easy. If using IE select "view", then "source" .

Thank you for the link. I tried eveything there except editing the php.ini
file. I have no idea what this is, or where to find it. Any ideas?

Following the instructions from the link you sent did get rid of the added
code, but caused the form function to stop working.

The page is working now only because I editied the file in notepad just so I
could get back to a working code.

I realize that, but if someone is going to ask for help, and then make it
into a hassle, I won't spend much time on it.

Your host would have to change it (php.ini) on the server and you would have to change it on your local pc installation of PHP (The
PHP.ini file should be either in your windows folder - usually C:\windows or C:\winnt- or in the folder where php.exe is installed)

Your original post indicated a change of hosts
- possible your prior host had the php.ini configured differently from your current host

If you can't change it, see the alternate suggestion to not use <? ?> type tags
Use ASP-like <% and %> tags instead of the <? php?> tags. This stops FrontPage from reformatting your PHP code. Note As an
alternative, you can use <script language="php"> and </script> tags instead of <? php?> tags.
- you could do a global search (<?) & replace (<%) (and the closing tags too)

How is it more of a hassle to click on File | View source than it is to
right click the page and select something from the right click menu?

R

Ronx

It's two operations:
Ist - right click and curse the stupid script
2nd - menu View->Source

Since everything in the right-click menu is also in the menu and
toolbars, why have the script in the first place?

My sentiments exactly.

Did you count the hand smash on the keyboard in your operation total? I
don't think so....

Let me guess.. you guys who are doing the whining about one extra click are
probably the same guys who will sit and watch a TV show that they HATE only
because they cannot reach the remote. Am I right?

B

Bob Lehmann

My guess is that they, like myself, are the same guys who think it's pretty
stupid to get up and change the channel manually when there is a remote
available.

Hi All,
I been to this board a couple of times for help and I am more then grateful
for the help I received. It is much appreciated. After this, I don't know if
I will receive help again but I feel I have to speak up. You guys can't
tell me you won't help Haley because of the no right click. I do not see
where taking an extra second to go to the view source is going to kill
anyone or put strain on their mouse finger. Web site creating is like
anything else, it is a live and learn experience and we learn as we go and
hopefully we never stop learning. Ok, so the no right click isn't the best
way to go but cut her some slack. If you don't know the answer to her
question just say so, instead of belittling her.

Well, most likely you caught people on a bad day. For the past couple of
days this group has been filled with discussions about right-click, at least
3 websites I looked at that asked for help had the right click disabled (my
limit is 2 a day).

Some things just more annoying about the 10th time you do them. People ask
for help. You need to see the source code. You go to their site. They have
that stoopid right click java thing on.

Now, if this is the first or second one of the day, you might just sigh,
click EDIT - SELECT ALL. But if it is the 5th or 10th one of the day you
might just scream. So try to catch people early in the morning :D.

Plus that script happens to be a pet peeve for many people.
