White in transparent gifs?

I'm trying to get my company logo into a PP Presentation. Using a Solid red
symbol (similar to an Asterix) works fine, with transparancy around the
symbol.

But I want a white symbol, which doesn't show properly in PP? I'm sure this
worked before?

I'm using 2004 for Mac if that makes a difference.
 
Thanks for the help, I've sorted it now, I'm using a .png file instead. The
white gifs where showing a solid black square in PP. looked like some kind
of error box.
