I don't know if this is a window's problem or not. But on
occasion when at a website instead of a picture showing a
tiny (white box with a red X ) is there? What does that
mean and what do I need to do to make it go away?

Ellen,

First, make sure if the "Show Pictures" option is turned on in Advanced tab
of Internet Options. If it is already on, refer this MSKB article:

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283807

This problem is also seen in computers where Norton Internet Security
Ad-blocks is turned on.

My show pics is on. I do have my AOL pop up protection
on. could that be it possibly? I also have Norton anti
virus. Could that be it also?
Thanks for the help

Ellen,

May be. Try disableling all background programs and try again. And the
problem is with IE? set the encoding to auto-select/
