Which Security Update do I use

Bob

When I get the message that there is a security update (KB XXXXX), which
update do I use? There are several downloads for the KB's out on the
Microsoft download site (Example: X86, and 64bit & ect.) I have a HP
Notebook using the AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-32 1.79 GHz. Do I use
the X86 update for this system, even though I have this type Chipset? zI do
not believe that this is a full blown 64 bit system. Thanks in advance for
your response.

When I received a message that a Microsoft Security Update was available from
Microsoft, " WindowsXP-KB958644-x86-ENU.exeX86)". I have Microsoft XP Home
Edition version 2002, Service Pack 3. V.3311. I downloaded and installed
this Security update and I am fairly sure that is what I have used in the
past, (the x86 version), but this particular update tied my computer up, and
was so slow I had to do an un-install. As you mentionm previously, I am
sure I have 32 bit software vewrsion and not the 64. Have you heard of any
problems with this particular update? Thanks in advance for your response.

Select Start, Control Panel, Automatic Updates uncheck Automatic and
check "Notify me but don't automatically download or install". When
notified commence the process by selecting Start, Help and Support, Keep
your computer up-to-date with Windows Update and opt for a Custom
install.

The system will offer you the right update. Exceptions. Don't take third
party drivers and software like Silverlight. Security updates are
labelled Critical and you should take Critical Updates. It's the
optional updates you need to be wary of.

To find out if you have a 32 bit system (x86) -

Click Start, Select Run, now type in: msinfo32

Have a look at System Type etc.

I am 100% sure you have 32 bit as XP Home isn't available in 64 bit, that
would have been some good info to include in your original post.
