Which Norton package for upgrade to XP?

G

Griff

Folks:

I'm about to replace Windows Me with an upgrade to XP. The
XP upgrade advisor informs me that my current Norton 2000 /
2001 software (Norton AntiVirus, SystemWorks & Norton
Utilities) will need to be replaced with current editions.

Can these three products be purchased in a single package,
or does this mean three separate purchases?

Advice for a novice? Thanks.

you can purchase norton internet security which is the firewall and
antivirus combined.
system works is another package.

Thanks, guys

Looks like I ought to have SystemWorks as well as Norton
Internet Security. Is Norton Internet Security included as
part of the SystemWorks package?

Thanks again.

I would suggest you NOT get systemworks. In my
experience it adds a lot of overhead for little net value.
Do get Internet Security 2004.

You're going to have overlap if you get both packages.

Norton Internet Sec. Is actually Norton personal firewall and Antivirus,
packaged together. Considering that systemworks has Norton Antivirus
included, you would be paying for the same thing twice.

MYSELF? I'd get Norton Internet Security, and call it good.

The only thing I really liked in systemworks was their Defragger.
One one in XP is actually pretty good. Although with basic features,
however it does the Job well. If you want a More full featured
defragger, go for Diskeeper 8. The native one in XP is after all a basic
version of Diskeeper, written by the same people. (executive software).

Systemworks 2004 inclues Norton utilities and Norton Anti-Virus and is
compatible with Windows XP. Uninstall the current Norton before you
upgrade and install the new one after you upgrade.

There are a number of problems in the 2004 series of Norton programs. Live
update is not working and there seem to be a number of incompatabilities
with XP. Customer support is non-existent. I have read of a number of
rebates being impossible to get and the 2004 series of programs has fewer
parts to it than the 2003 series. 2003 series will work fine with XP and do
not have to be "activated" which is also a problem.

I have experienced no problem of any kind with NAV 2004. I do not use NSW
because - with the exception of NAV - I find no reason to use it. Live
Update works just fine for NAV (and for Ghost, which I also use.) I have not
experienced any compatibility problems. In my experience, Symantec technical
support has been prompt and helpful; and Symantec is one of the few
companies whose rebates arrive on time. Lastly, product activation presents
to problem to users who use software legally.

No software is perfect. It's always easier to b and m than it is to learn
how to use a product to best advantage.

Neither I nor symantec could get Norton Internet Security 2004 to work
on my XP machine, ended up giving me a refund. Went with Zone Alarm
and NAV 2004. NAV 2004 will not let my computer do a chkdsk on the C:
drive if I have auto-protect start up with windows. No cure from
symantec on that one either. To their credit they did respond to both
problems by e-mail and I also have no problem with product activation.
It is unusual that I have had so many problems with Symantec's 2004
line of products since I used their 2003 products with no problems.
