Chrisssssss.........

Please excuse my basic question but:

My Umax Astra 3450 has at last given up and so I wish to purchase a nice
brand-spanking new one.
I'm looking for a faster A4 scanner that can also scan slides (but if it
can't provide better results than my Umax which was useless for slides, then
forget the slides option). I don't need software as I have all the software
I need.

The last criteria is price......... under £100

Can anyone suggest a good scanner?

Much appreciated, Chrisssss........

Over the years, I've used numerous scanners from all the major
manufacturers, parallel, SCSI and USB and the best sub £100 scanner so has
been the Canon 4200F

"3200x6400dpi/48-bit colour, Film adaptor unit for four 35mm strip, two
mounted slides with new clip-in film guides, 2.6 sec preview super fast scan
engine, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, fast multi-photo mode, Four EZ buttons with
enhanced scan to PDF feature, QARE Level 2 dust and scratch removal with
colour restoration, High value software: OmniPage SE 2.0, ArcSoft
Photostudio 5.5, ScanGear V8.6, and Toolbox v4.6.

The slide copying facility is adequate in a unit of this price (slide
copying, you get what you pay for) "Froogle" lists this model from £66 to
£129.

Dear Mike,

Thanks for your suggestion, but when I read it, I had only just bought an
Epson 3490.
I should say though that this Epson has almost identical specifications to
the Canon.
Compared to my old Umax, the results are far better than expected. The
scanning of slides is quite good enough for most purposes and again is far
better than the Umax.
Overall I can't fault it.

Many thanks for your response.

Much appreciated. Chrissssssss........
