My system is P4 3.0, 512 ram, 200 HDD, forced cooling to cpu,
intergrated mother board( hence need for new card), running xpsp2.It
also has power supply fan, and extra exhaust fan. ANY help would be
much appriciated, as only been in the market for very short time...

i believe that the 5900 is a 256bit card, so thats what you want out of the
two

however i would strongly suggest if you got that much cash, get either a
Nvidia 6600gt AGP(yes, they do agp versions) If thats still to expensive
think about getting a 9800 pro, don't waste your cash on a 9800xt as you can
easily overclock your card to perform like an xt model.

But if you can, definately get a 6600GT

heres a good site which compares most of the older generation cards( the
6600gt is a new gen card)
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/vga_charts-04.html#3dmark_2003

theres nothing wrong with the older cards but they will of course won't
perform as well as the newer cards under certain conditions eg. a 9800 pro
might get 200fps at 800x600 with the shaders and stuff turned off, but maybe
if you turn them on and take up the resolution to 1024x768 the 6600gt might
well perform better, but the spanking brand new games will perform better on
higher settings with the newer cards

hope that helped

Depending on what power supply you have, an fx5900 or 9800 pro should be
better than a 9600xt. I have a 9600XT 256mb and it plays HL2 fine at
1024x768 on high, doom 3 fine at 800x600 on high and far cry fine at
1024x768 on medium (I have a P4 3.0 and 1gb of RAM).

One thing I will say though is that I noticed a definite improvement in
far cry and doom 3 upgrading from 512mb to 1gb of RAM (making sure that
I kept the 400mhz ram in dual channel giving me the 800mhz FSB)

The biggest difference is that a 9600XT has 4 pipelines and a 128bit
interface whereas a 9800Pro has 8 pipelines and a 256bit interface which
gives it about a 30-40% boost over a 9600XT.

I am not familiar with what an FX5900 has but another poster has said
that it has a 256bit interface which is better than 9600XT

The 9600XT series compares with the 5700 Ultra series. Both 128bit, both
bench about same. A straight 5900 is 256bit, and will bench similarly to a
straight 9800 non-pro. It's better than a 9600XT.
