which ini? hard coded IP config in the windows directory

I cant remember how to assign a name to an IP
e.g. 192.1.1.2 name.name.name.com
Windows 9x used to do this in one of the .ini files in the
windows dir, currently working with Windows 2000 how do
you do the assignment?

it has never been in an ini file
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
c:\windows\hosts for windows 9x

if it is for file sharing you may need to add it to LMHOST file in the same
location
