My mobo is Matsonic with labels MSCLE 266-F v3.0A and chipset VIA/VT8235.
Because it getting too frequent that when I boot up, it goes to the boot
menu and cannot get further, So just did a clean xp installation and
activated it.

As I do not have the mobo cd, I downloaded the VIA/S3GCLEA266 graphic from
VIA website. It seems ok (without restart after the graphic installation) and
I then d/l the audio and run the setup as instructed. It restart by itself
and now I have a Black Hole or screen rather. When i boot up in ' Safe mode',
it load the drivers
multi (0).......................\ntoskrnl.exe till midway and stop at
multi (0).......................\windows\app patch\drvmain.sdb and freeze
here. I noticed that the cpu fan also stop (AMD processor). It will not boot
up to the Last Known Good Configuration (the Led will just hang there)

Please what shall I do to ascertain which partfails, thank you

If I read your post correctly, I would say it is the driver not the
hardware.
Can you boot from the XP CD and get the install screen to load? Or does that
fail as well?

Try another power supply unit.

Yes, can boot from cd and get the install screen to load and what shall I do
next? Reformat and install the xp or repair window xp installation using
Recovery Console or F3 to quit Setup. Please advice, thanks
