I'm considering purchasing a Western Digital USB 2.0 80GB external hard
drive, http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10356983&loc=16076. It
cost only $99.99.

My other option is a USB 2.0 80 GB Iomega external drive,
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10358557&loc=16076.

I'd like to here any comments on the above drives or comments on a
completely different drive if you have had much luck with it and it is a
great value.

BTW, for now I will have USB 1.1, which should be work on the USB 2.0
drives.

Thanks,
Brett

My comments depend on the following questions:

1- Do you need a portable drive? Do you have to move the drive back
and forth to different locations?

2- Do you have a spare drive bay inside your PC and available connection?

If you don't need a portable drive and if you have a spare drive bay
inside the pc forget the external drive and get an internal drive. IDE
is faster not to mention that USB transfers are handled by the CPU (CPU
initiated).

Go with the Western Digital ... it's a better drive/enclosure combo.

Or you could buy the Western Digital bare drive, under USD70.00 at many on-line stores, and put it in the USB 2.0 enclosure of your
choice.
