(I know that this is not really the most appropriate group for this
question, but answers would be appreciated as well as a good group for
upgrading and new build advice please.)

I've not kept up to date with which CPU's are the ones to have, i need to
build a new pc, dont want amd's 64bit, has anyone compared the P4 to the AMD
barton, or the lessor amd's. Or any addresses where there are up to date
comparisons with cpu's, memory, etc. All help appreciated.

I'm an avid AMD fan but you can go to tomshardware.com
and read his opinions on CPU's.

Hi, the AMD XP2500 cpu seems to be a popular one at the moment, it retails
at around £70 and will easily run at the same speed as a XP3200, which costs
over £200. Coupled with a good motherboard, say a ABit NF7, and memory, at
least 2 x 256mb PC3200, pos Twinmos, you'll have a excellent and fast
setup.....
