I have been reading there is supposed to be the ability to create a recovery
disc built into SP1 under Start | All Programs | Maintenance but it's not
there ........ where is it?

That would explain it, I'm using Home Premium.

I don't know if MS included in all the sp1 updates, prior it was only
available in the Business and Ultimate editions.

Windows (no flavor or version) has ever had this option, though some
computer manufacturers provide a method of creating recovery discs and name
it something similar. The closest thing Windows Vista has is the "Complete
PC Backup" which can create a backup set (not a restore disc but a full
system backup) that can be restored using the Vista DVD and advanced
recovery options.

Richard, I was referring to links like this:-

"One of the new administrative tools Windows Vista Service Pack 1 provides
is the ability to create a recovery disc"

Barry

That was an option that was offered during the SP1 Beta to testers.

The file that creates the recovery disc is still available at the following
website.

There is no such option in Windows - pre or post SP1. Note that the article
you quoted is very old and contains outdated material.

Spend a small amount and buy something like Acronis TrueImage ... it will
work better than any solution microsoft has to date.

Shawn

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know they had the 64bit version available
yet. :)

Shawn

The file is also in the 32bit version, but it is only 188KB. Not sure why
they would even leave it in there?
