Contact the manufacturer of your laptop and see if they will provide a
replacement of your "ruined" recovery media.

The only way to obtain a legitimate copy of Windows if your computer
manufacturer does not provide it is to purchase one.

Which make/model laptop is it?

Contact the laptop's manufacturer for replacement disks. Otherwise,
you'll need to purchase a generic OEM license.

Obviously you are asking about an OEM version of Windows, the one the
OEM jobber pre-installed into whatever computer you have which you
never bothered to identify. If the recovery CDs have been "ruined"
then see if there is a hidden partition on your hard disk where is the
recovery images. You could just try calling whomever makes this
laptop. If it isn't an OEM version (i.e., retail) then go ask
Microsoft for a replacement CD (there probably is a charge, though).

By the way, it's "plain", not "plane". Ask your parents to buy you
another copy. "It" may be a legitimate copy but what you are asking
for is an illegal copy.

It is unusual that your oem recovery disks are ruined and you are relunctant
to obtain functional copies from the laptops website..And if the laptop
password protected, there are no disks that will help you bypass this.

the windows cd is just like "MONEY". If you don't guard the system of cd's
and their product keys, then it is like loosing money out of your pocket and
the only choice is to get a genuine replacement(s) either from microsoft or
buy a new product from the retailer or the oem's from your laptops website,
keeping in mind that your particular laptop may require special drivers avail
only from the laptop mfg...

You could, however use someones else's windows cd to repair your windows or
use the recovery console. But you will ulitmately have to register that
installation and or change the product id with the one on your laptop to make
it legit.

Also, you could get startup disks made by someone else computer. These may
help you to regain functionality via command prompt, if you know how and if
the windows problem is not severe and recoverable.

If you can then regain a functional laptop, you need to "immediately" make
your own recovery disks, disk images or something.

Otherwise, you don't have too many choices because you will need some kind
of external method to get into an unfunctional machine, ei windows cd,
recovery disks, etc.....

I don't know what you mean by "plane jane copy." However, short of going out
and buying another copy, your only recourse is with the OEM who made your
computer. They may supply another recovery disk for a small fee, or they may
supply an OEM installation disk (if they do, it will almost certainly be for
a much larger fee), or they may supply nothing at all.

im reluctant to get the disks back because i hate the compaq
preinstalled crap... another reason i havedecided to start from
scratch.. the laptop is a compaq presario V2000... nice little
laptop.. the disks work but every time i install the recovery it is
already corrupted (its my bosses computer and i am GOING to fix it)
with compaq you have to actually make your own recovery disks... they
have a built in imageing tool that you do at the very beginning or
after you get all you software installed..

i was going to fix it but something very wrong has messed it up..
basic .exe files wont run... like i download winrar to unzip a file..
but i cant install winrar because something in windows is totally
F'ed... i think its beyond the point of no return... so.. that gets me
back to having to start from scratch and i dont think he's going to be
willing to spend another 90$ to get a copy of windows that already came
with his 2 month old laptop..

he's bout 2 new programs already... Roxio 8 for revocery, Norton
Systemworks 2006 (he tried fixing it with those.. and those 2 arent
cheap) and i dont think he's going to put more money into this thing
before he throw's it (hence why i got the task of fixing the stupid
thing... if noone knows where to get a copy of a XP Home SP2 Disk that
is clean of CRAP (i dl one off bittorrent but it has all sorts of
garbage to crack it.... no f'n way)

i dont use a pirated copy of windos, nor will i ever.

so to those of whom which can answer my question thank you ..

ok, i can understand what you are sayin....

Your boss really messed up the laptop if it only2 months old "and" the
restore disks are ruined. My guess would be that the hidden partition
containing the dos executable imaging software does not funtion and thus the
restore disks are simply unreadiable. But this doesn't mean they are
ruined.... Here's a thought...

If you have access to another pc, make a P.E. with it. A preinstallation
disk may get you into your command prompt and possibly recover the o.s. (I
emphasize possibly). On another pc, download a freeware called Barts PE
and install it. It will then make a bootable cd with some helpful commands.

But would might be really helpful would be to see if you can get any free
downloads from Compaq for that laptop, like the recovery software and
everything else as well. Just possibly (emphasizing just possibly) the
recovery software for the compaq might be a usuable pluggin by Barts PE.

If so, then you might be in business with getting on the bosses good side.
Theres a lot more to discuss with the above mentioned. So a followup posting
would be helpful from you. In the interim, find another pc, download barts
pe and download everything from compaq for that laptop..... Then we can get
to the next step...

I never appreciated comcrap's because they always used "special" drivers.
And withouth them, the machine was very irratting.... I threw an old one i
had away a couple of years ago....

Anyway, i hope you are helping your boss out for a promotion or
something.... (Me?, I might, but I would ask what would i get in return....
Scratch you and scratch me back. Otherwise i would recommend to send the
machine back while its in warranty...)

A "plain jane" Windows CD will not contain all the necessary drivers and
other software for your laptop. Contact the manufacturer and obtain another
Restore CD set from them.
