Where to buy new Power Supply for DELL WorkStation 420?

I did order it from Dell one month ago but they kept postponing the ship
date. Now they have cancelled it. This is due to some problem with their
supplier.

Do other vendors sell this stuff? Any recommendation?

You can get an Antec from CompUSA. If you want to buy online I'd suggest
buying from http://www.newegg.com. Enermax supplies are nice, Antecs are
also decent. Don't buy a cheap supply, expect to pay $75-$100 for a good
supply. Make sure that the power supply supports your System/Processor
type, P4 supplies are different from Dual Xeon supplies. If you buy from
newegg you'll find the details about each supply on their website.

Is it standard or proprietary?

If you have the part number you may find it with a Google search.

Be aware that Dell often use a different pin lay-out for their
PSU/motherboard connector than the ATX standard. Therefore, AFAIK, you need
a PSU specified for a Dell, or you may need to move some of the connectors
around in the connector block.

Be sure to mention to any proposed supplier that the PSU is intended for a
Dell.

:). I do know what you went through, I've been following it for the last
month or more here.

I was just trying to lighten the situation up a little.

Those bastards. Don't you just hate companies that introduce
incompatibilites just for the sake of locking in their customers.

Sure do. I would never buy a Dell, they get mainstream manufacturers to make
their components and re-arrange the pin layout to make them incompatible
with off-the-shelf replacements.

Bastards alright.
