Where is Wingding 1, I have Wingding 2 and 3 but no 1

I am using the Student/Teacher Edition (2003) of Office and under symbols I
can't find my font for Wingdings. I have a font for Wingding2 and Wingding3
but no Wingding. I am on an on-line course and everyone else had this font
catagory except me. I am actually looking for the windows symbol which is
under Wingding. I am guessing that the Student/Teacher editiion is missing
the original Wingding font under symbols. Can anyone help me. Maybe I can
down load this font catagory somewhere?

Wingdings is a Windows core font; it should be installed on any Windows
system; according to http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/default.aspx,
it is supplied with Access 2000, BackOffice Server 4.0, Excel 2000,
FrontPage 2000, Money 99 Deluxe, Money 99 Standard, Office 2000 Premium,
Office 97 Small Business Edition SR2, Outlook 2000, PhotoDraw 2000,
PowerPoint 2000, Publisher 2000, Publisher 98, TrueType Font Pack 2, Windows
2000, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 95 Version Upgrade, Windows 98,
Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows NT Terminal Server 4.0, Windows NT
Workstation 3.5, Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 SP4,
Windows NT Workstation 4.0 SP5, Windows NT Workstation 4.0b, Windows XP,
Windows XP SP2, Word 2000, Works 2002, and Works 4.5a. Assuming you have any
of these applications, you should be able to reinstall it from the original
CDs.

I understand now that Wingdings is a core Windows font, I did not know this.
Under symbols in Word is where I am finding the font for Wingding and mine is
missing Wingding 1. I installed Office 2003 and this may have altered and
gotten rid of it. I have Wingding 2 and 3 but no 1. I know there is a 1
because people in my on line course told me. Also the Windows symobl is
listed under that font according to my book. I do not have an original cd
for Windows XP so I am not sure how to install Wingdings 1. Any more help?

There is no Wingdings 1 - there is Wingdings and there are Wingdings 2 and 3
Installing Office 2003 (or any other version of Office) will not delete
Windows fonts. However in order to display Windows fonts, in Word, you must
have an active printer selected capable of printing them.

Your informants are wrong. The font you want is just "Wingdings", not
"Wingdings 1". This font existed long before the other two, so there
was no need to add a number to its name.

In the Wingdings font, the Windows symbol is character number 255, the
last one. In Word, hold the Alt key while you type 0255 on the number
keypad (with NumLock turned on) to get the character ÿ. Then select
the character and apply the Wingdings font to it.

There are other ways to insert this and other symbols. See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/InsertSpecChars.htm.
