Hi,
I posted the question "default folder for Explorer" and received 2 emails
that someone responded. When I click on the link in the email I go to the
newsgroup listing but not to my question. I can't find my question in the
listing and I can't find it if I do a search for it. It's like I never
listed it, however others must be seeing it......

Can someone tell me why??????

Use Google Groups Advanced Search to find previous posts.

Better yet use a newsreader instead of the awful web interface. Vista comes
with Windows Mail which is already configured for newsgroup access under
Microsoft Communities. For Outlook Express in XP here is a link for how to
set that up for newsgroups.

Hmmm...if the OP cannot read his own posts, how did he expect to be able to
read the answer to this question? That's a bit of a conundrum.

Yep it's a Catch 22 loop. I posted it for when he can see it and to benefit
others.

Hi Rock,

Can you please help me? I had the same problem as Phil. I was posting
questions, but not being able to find them using IE to view the news groups.
So I did resort to using Windows Mail. Now I have the opposite problem. I
answered someone else's posting, but my message is not showing up in Windows
Mail. Now I can see my response when I go to the posting using IE. Can you
tell me how I update the messages using Windows Mail? Also I was asked for a
user name and password using Windows Mail to view these news groups. I tried
using my Microsoft .Net Passport, but it did not work. Although that is what
I use to access the news groups when I use IE. Do I have to sign up somewhere
to view the news groups on Windows Mail? When I originally displayed the news
groups in Windows Mail I was not asked for a user name or password and the
groups seemed to display properly. Any help you can provide me would be
deeply appreciated.

Thank you,
James

Hi Dave,

Thank you for replying to my question, I really appreciate it. Now I know I
can ignore the user name and password window. I am still having a problem
with microsoft.public.windows.vista.general news group. Yesterday I answered
someone's question and today my answer still does not show up when accessing
this news group through windows mail. But if I go to the news group using IE
my answer is right where it should be. Any suggestions?

Thanks, James

Do you have the view set to "Show All Messages" in that group?
View - Current View - Show all messages

Hit "Ctrl-H" to highlight your messages.

In Windows Mail, Tools > Options > Read tab. Under the news section you can
select the number of message headers to download at a time. The default is
300. Be warned, if you remove the check completely, it will download *all*
of the headers in the newsgroup, which could amount to tens of thousands.

Alternatively, use the 'Get Next Headers' icon on the toolbar - it's the
double envelope one with a green arrow on it on the right.
