Where is it?

Windows Defender isn't on the All Programs list and doesn't show up in a
search, but when I tried to download and install it, it said that the latest
version has already been installed.

Lets start over from the beginning: What antispyware application(s) do you
have installed?

Have you installed Windows Defender, as far as you can recall?

What action are you taking--give the steps, when you get this message that
"the latest version is already installed?"

My origional problem, I have discovered, is related to Musicmatch, so I
uninstalled Musicmatch(this fixed my problem). I have Spybot S&D, AD-Aware,
and as far as I know Windows Defender (but I can't use it).

Hmm--very strange-- What was it that tipped you off about MusicMatch? And
when you say "this fixed my problem"--what problem was fixed by uninstalling
MusicMatch?

For the Windows Defender issue, I think at this point the Windows Installer
Cleanup utility is the available tool:

Download via a link in the above KB article--read the article and other info
in the program carefully--this tool can do damage if used carelessly.

Install it, and run it via start, all programs.

Go down the list and remove only the two Windows Defender related items
listed.

That should allow you to reinstall Windows Defender. Once you succeed in
that, I'd recommend uninstalling the utility--especially on a shared machine
where others might use it.

Thanks, that worked. By the way, I was trying to get rid of a hidden window
called "ShellIcon" that was related to Musicmatch, I found out on another
forum. Everything is working now.
