where is it?

AutoUpdate supposedly installed it along with the latest patch. Event
viewer says it installed both Hotfixes succesfully. Yet the program is
nowhere to be found. Nothing new in my tray, under Programs or Accesories,
Program Files, running processes, Add/Remove... I mean NOTHING! Yes I have
restarted. No this is not an illegal XPPro.

Any thoughts? Anybody else seen this?

If you're talking about the free virus removal, then it's
in its own folder on your root drive. At least that's
where it was for me when I got it using Windows Update.
I ran it a few times, but now the folder and program seem
to disappeared.

Wierd stuff. I didn't really want it anyway, but WinUpdate grabbed it (or
so it said), and checking my installation history at the site confirms
that yesterday I downloaded and installed "Malicious Software Removal Tool
- January 2005 (KB890830)". Well I *did* download and install it, but it
ain't here :-o Like my teenage daughter would say, "...what EVER!"

So no harm, no foul. Didn't need the damn thing anyway.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool just scans the system and then
"disappears". The log file is in the WINDOWS\Debug folder. Think it's
name is mrt.log.

Thank you for this information, Steve. Would have been nice if Microsoft
would have told us this before downloading. It just about drove me crazy
looking for the stupid thing.

You're welcome, Betty. Yes, it should have been prominently featured
either on the Download Center page, included on the Windows Update site,
or when downloaded via Automatic Update.
