Where Is File Size Column on Search Screen?

A Baffled User

As I've written previously to this newsgroup, I'm just starting out with
Vista Home Premium, having upgraded from a Windows Me desktop. I was just
trying to figure out why the heck almost one-quarter, 69 GB, of my 320 GB
hard drive is full?!?! My previous desktop had a 40 GB hard drive, and only
20 GB of it were filled after seven years of use!! What is going on here? I
have transferred some files from my old computer, but I haven't even started
really using this desktop yet.

So I'm trying to identify the culprits by performing an advanced search for
files larger than 10 MB. I launch the search and get multiple files that are
presumably larger than 10 MB, but there is no file-size column to sort the
files found by the search.

Right click the column headings and you can then enable other columns such
as size.

Windows has grown a lot since Me, so have hardware capacities. The Vista
installation alone demands 15GB available space, and as you use it, it
gradually populates your hard drive with more. Most of this is System
Restore file copies, Vista uses about 15% of the available storage space for
this. You can limit this usage, but as long as you have got available
storage I would not recommend it.

System Restore is your main "culprit", and it's files will not show in your
search results.

In the Search Results window, open View menu > Sort > More > tick 'Size'
box.
