When I begin typing an email address in the "To" box when composing a
message.... a drop down box appears with a host of possible email addresses.
Where does this data come from, where is it stored, and how can you remove
certain names from the list ?

Thanks !

In OUtlook go to "tools" the dropdown will have "Address Book", Click on that
and it will show the list. Click on the ones you don't wnat and then click on
the "X". Be very sure you want to delete that person as there is no warning
it is just deleted.

Hi Alice,

I do not believe this is correct.... the names that appear when I begin
typing in the "To" box are different than the names that are in the address
book.

Thanks

Assuming you are using Outlook 2002 or later:

If you want to delete individual entries, start typing in a name and when
the list comes up, point to the entry you want to delete (so that it's
highlighted) and press Delete. To delete the whole cache and start over,
look for a file with an .NK2 extension and rename it or move it. Outlook
will start a new cache file the next time an e-mail address is typed into the
To: box. Note that if you're using Windows 2000 or XP, you'll need to search
in hidden and system folders to find the .NK2 file (it also helps to have
file extensions visible).

There is also a 3rd party program called Ingressor (
http://www.ingressor.com/) that lets you edit the NK2 file directly.
