where do I start a database for addresses for merge mailings

Do I have Access 2003 on my Microsoft Office SBE? Is that where I start with
a database?
 
Depends on what you consider a "database". Word can manage merge mailings
if you provide it a data file, which can be a simple text file.

How have you come to the conclusion that Access is the tool you need to use?
