Where did my macros go?

H

hmm

When I used Word 2000, I had macros for which I created toolbar buttons to
run them. When I first switched to Word 2007, these buttons appeared in the
Add-Ins tab. Some weeks ago, I switched PC's, loading the "Documents and
Settings" folder to the new PC. However, I do not see my macros in Word
2007. I checked the VB projects explorer, and the Normal does not even
contain my macros! I searched for Normal in Documents and Settings, and
found a file named Normal.dotm.old. Perhaps they're in there. But even if
so, how do I access it?

Basically, I want to know how I can reinstate my macros and custom tools
that run them; any help would be much apprecitated.

You need to copy the add-in(s) that contain your macros from the Word
Startup folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\STARTUP) to the
equivalent folder on your new PC.

You can open normal.dotm.old in Word.

Thanks Graham. Unfortunately, the folder you specified is completely empty,
both in my new drive and my previous drive.

Could it be that Office 2007 installation program moved the files elsewhere?

Alternatively, as I remember, Word 2000 stored personal macros in
Normal.dot, which was saved within the user's "Documents and Settings"
folder. But if Normal.dotm.old is the same file, how do I extract from it
the macros & tool buttons so that they become available each time I open Word
2007?

If you open the normal.dotm.old file in Word, you should then be able to
copy any macro projects to the normal.dotm file, via the Organizer (to
display it, press Alt+F8, then click the Organizer button).
