Where are the temp excel files kept?

I was working on a sheet today when the power in the building shut down
causing my computer to go down. I was not saving as often as I should have
been and I have lost that file. Anyone got any ideas on how I can recover
that file?

Excel is not like word. It does not keep tmp backups and allow for recovers.
I am afraid that gone is gone. You are about to start again... On the up side
you learned something today. You need to save your work regularly. We have
all been there...

If it helps I feel your pain. In fact I have felt it more than once. On the
up side I don't loose very much any more.

If you're using xl2002+, you can turn on autorecover.

Then the workbook is saved as a different name/folder every xx minutes (user
selectable).

If excel/windows crashes, the next time you start excel, it'll notice this file
and prompt you to find out if you want to use it.

If excel closes normally, this file is deleted (never to be heard from again!).

If you're using xl2k (or before), you can use an addin from Jan Karel
Pieterse: AutoSafe.

It doesn't overwrite the existing workbook when it saves. It saves to a user
selectable folder. And when it's done, it either deletes these backups (or puts
them in the recycle bin). And the user can always restore the backups from the
recycle bin.

Jan Karel's version will know if there was a crash and prompt you to open the
last version it saved.

xl2k and before had another option--autosave that you could use. It just saves
the workbook at regular intervals. (quite different from autorecovery or Jan
Karel's autosafe.)
