System Configuration:
MS Windows XP Home edition.
IE 6
MS Office XP Pro
Norton System Works 2002

Hi,

I am having a problem with clearing my history files in IE 6. IE shows the
history clear when I clear it, however when I use Norton System works there
is almost 1MB stored in 3 files that will not clear. I have it set up to
clear the files.

I wrote Symantec (Norton) and they say then no longer support the 2002
edition. Great way to make people update products. (gripe) Anyway they
said I probably had some corrupted history files.

I could not find anything on Microsoft's or Symantec's knowledge bases.

I was wondering if someone could tell me where the files for the history are
and if it is safe to delete them.

I do have a laptop with IE 6 so If I need to replace the files I can copy
them from the laptop.

However I cant seem to find the files.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

L.

where do you put the c:\documents and settings etc etc. Do you go to start
and search? I am using windows xp home

I found this maybe it will help. Note what he said about McAfee.

"With no IE windows open, try it from Control Panel> Internet Options>
General> Clear History.

Or, you might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Another program might be locking your history.
http://www.purgeie.com/lockhist.htm

The ActiveX filter of McAfee (and possibly other) anti-virus programs can
interfere with the history function of IE. Just disable the ActiveX filter.

Hope this helps,
Don -MVP IE/OE"
