The answer to both questions is the same: when Microsoft deems that
they are ready. No promises have been made.

That said, both are widely expected to be fairly soon. I expect to see
both within the next few months.

But I wouldn't recommend betting the farm on it.

wouldn't you want them to come out when they are fully tested?
I would rather wait for this then to get something that would totally hose
my system

Certainly I would rather wait. Did I say anything that led you believe
otherwise?

OK, but unless it's your intention to confuse the readers here, please
be more careful in the future to reply to the correct person's
message.

I agree! I would also wait for a SP that needs no more updates!

I wish folks would stop giving blanket recommendations to install the
beta versions of SP1 and SP3. The newsgroups, blogs and listservs are
filled with situations where people went ahead without knowing what they
were getting into or preparing for problems. I've seen at least one
where the user can't even load Vista after installing SP1....

SP1 (and SP3) should only be installed by those who know what they are
getting into and should *NEVER* be installed on a production machine
unless the person is prepared to rebuild or restore the system from
backup...

Huh??? When has MS *EVER* not updated after a service pack? If you wait
for that, you will never install a service pack, ever....

how to install a needed patch for IE6

I heard Vista SP1 will be out soon, possibly Tuesday January 29th. They
aren't forcasting any big changes, just the usually service pack including
updates and security patches all bundled into one neat download.
