when trying to nudge up, object nudges down, how can I fix?

I can hit up or left/right arrow keys and my object nudges down only. I tried
reinstalling/fixing installation. and that didn't help.
Also the words I type appear at the very top of the page (very top) but in
the Print layout side panel, they appear the the proper place(1 inch down
from the top of the page).
any suggestions??

For the first problem, see whether you have accidentally set page
vertical alignment to center instead of top.

Look for it under File | Page Setup | Layout tab

Thank you Suzanne, but that wasn't it. I did find that if I go in and simply
click view header/footer, then close header/footer my document appears as it
should. It doesn't fix the underlying issue but it fixes it in the current
document I'm working in.

I checked and it is set to top. IT was nice of you to help.
At least I can drag and drop...

If viewing the header/footer works, then this suggests that white space *is*
the issue. Every document you open opens with the settings of the window you
open it from. If you're having this problem with new documents, then it
should suffice to change this on the View tab of Tools | Options by checking
the box for "White space between pages."
