and then i can't seem to get it back up. the blank area of the page is then
unusable... i can't click on it or play with it in any way. it shows no
formatting. I can move the text back up but it jumps back down again.

thanks for your help

What kind of "text"? How do you "move"? What do you mean by "no
formatting"? Have you checked for Page Break Before?

What version of Word?

by text i mean normal, written text, just like the text i'm writing now. when
i press backspace to move the text further up the page (or copy and paste,
i've tried that too) it jumps all the way down to the next page. it's like
there is some invisible barrier there. I can move it up to a certain point,
but after this point it jumps to the next page. weird.

I've done "show non printed formatting" with the paragraph icons and it
seems like everything is normal. how do i check for page breaks?

word 2000

Format | Paragraph | Line and Page Breaks. Look for "Keep with next" and
"Keep lines together" formatting as well. This can cause text to act as a
block.

i checked and formatting is as it should be (the boxes for keep paragraphs
together and keep lines together aren't checked) the only checked box is
"absatzkontrolle" (german version, something like: paragraph control) and i
tried unchecking it but it didnt help.

Hey! Another person with the same problem. Wow. My text literally moves in
front of my eyes. I am using a template made in W2003 with footer and header
(built in for industry info). My text when I type it looks one way. When I
hit print preview or print, I wind up with a mess because Continued and the
Page 2, etc., are not where I left them. OM goodness. I am going to try the
keep with next suggested in your post. Will try to find you again and maybe
you will have had better luck with your jumping text. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for helping y'all. t

Hard to judge without seeing the document, but if you like, you can send a
problem sample to my email, and I'll take a look.

I have looked at this document, and the problem was that every paragraph on
the second page (including numerous empty ones) was formatted as "Keep with
next."
