when I minimize a window, it disappears

Having opened a word doc or internet exploere home page, then minimize (-)
the window, it disappears offf the bottom left hand corner of my screen.
I have to "ctrl+alt+del" and use task manager to re-open the doc or web
page. Help!

Tried that Garfield - thanks, but problem still there. Any other ideas? Cheers,
