When I come out of hibernation, it always says I have new message

I am using a new IBM Z60T Thinkpad. I notice when I come OUT of hibernation,
it says I have 2 new messages waiting. In fact I have none. I am using
Outlook 2003.

Any ideas on why it thinks I have messages and how to clear this up?
There are NO messages in any folder at all in Outlook.

When I come out of hibernation, I see the text on the screen that shows my
user name - where I have to click the user name to proceed to the desktop.
