When I click on "To..", names sort by first instead of last

Tori

I use Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2711) Coporate or Workgroup.
When I look at my Contacts, they are sorted by last name.
But when I prepare an email and click on the To.. button
and get the Select Names dialog box, the names are sorted
by first name. How can I get them to sort by last name?

It is already set to: File as (Smith,John). Any other
idea? Thank you.

Tori, I am having the same issue with OL2003. I am in the process of a conversion and have imported/added well over 500 contacts (so far). My 'file as' is last/first name, my 'display as' is first/last/company.

I do not have an option for Tools/Services....as recommended, however I did go to Tools/Options/Contacts/Contact Options and my 'Select order you would like OL to use for new names/Default full name order' was set at first/last and I changed it to last/first. The 'Default file as' was set at last/first already.

I do not understand 'why' the email 'To' contacts would show up as first/last alphabetically...............what purpose is that for??

Someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me there is a way to set/change this feature....

No. I've told you the only correct answer. There are two possibilities:
1. You have not yet restarted Outlook
2. Your File As field is not set to Last, First.

You would do well to keep your versions straight in these posts. You keep
getting them confused. Posts for Outlook 2000 do not apply to Outlook 2002
or 2003.
Here are the instructions for sorting the Outlook Address Book for every
version of Outlook, so you can take your pick:
97, 98/2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order

98/2000 Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by

Outlook 2002, 2003:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
