When I hit reply, I see a message box that says:
Press spacebar to activate or Enter to activate and use this control.

What is this and how do I get rid of it?

Okay, I think I've figured out that it is a security feature. It won't let me
just automatically reply to messages, I have to "accept". However, how do I
turn it off???

Oddly enough, I had this same problem recently. Only, it would happen on
every single web page I visited. I ended up having to do a restore to get
rid of it.

This is the result of a patent infringement lawsuit by EOLAS (and the
University of CA) against Microsoft. UC patented a process to automatically
enable embedded web content such as Adobe, Flash, ActiveX, etc. It is
another of those "patent the bubble" of things.
Microsoft unfortunately included this patch in a rollup of critical updates
that includes several vulnerability fixes (MS06-013) that can't be ignored
due to current exploits. You can't get another patch that disables the first
(and the click to enable) until June (see KB912945 and 917425).
