What's the best way to track donations from the alumni listed

How can I track donations given by alumni that I have listed in my alumni
database? I want to track the FUNDRAISER NAME (i.e. phonathon), FUNDRAISER
DATE, ALUMNI NAME, DONATION AMOUNT, DONATION DATE, etc.

I want to be able to add the donation amounts, pull 'totals' reports from
the data, etc. Should I do all the work in Excel and then somehow import it,
or can I ADD (find totals) in Access?

if you have a record of each individual donation, you can easily add all the
donations for specific fundraisers, specific alumni, specific months, years,
etc, just about any way you want to - just use a Totals query.

You'll need a separate Donations table related one-to-many to the
Alumni table (using a subform for data entry and display); you can
easily calculate totals using a Totals query, a Form, or a Report.

There's a database for recording charitable contributions available for
download at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010185821033.aspx
I've never used it, but it seems the sort of thing from which you might
get some ideas. They've also got a Membership database at
