from the perspective of Movie Maker.... my comments are on this page of my
website.

My personal score at the moment for running systems is

Windows 98 - 1 desktop
XP - 1 tablet, 1 notebook and 4 desktops
Vista - 1 desktop and 1 notebook

they are all running well...

if one is running a system with XP and it's working well.... then they need
a good reason to upgrade it to Vista

if one is buying a new computer... then they need a good reason not to get
one with Vista

What is it like compared to XP? I think Windows 3.1 is primative compared
to XP.

Or are you talking about Vista? One never knows in this group :-)

My sentiments exactly!

Like the sweet, good looking blonde you married thirty years ago; a lot
heavier & slower...And bitchy as hell...
Unless you can't live without it, stay with XP.

Yes, that is XP - old and creaking along. Vista is the hot new babe.

Vista the hot new babe? Where U been shopping? If I had a babe like Vista,
I'd want my money back. I'd take a polished XP any day.

Being as Vista is "new," Vista drivers are not as mature as XP drivers. One
may have to replace current hardware. (Example: I've got an ATI TV card that
doesn't have Vista drivers and will probably never have Vista drivers. If I
want to move to Vista on the box that has my TV card, I'll have to buy a new
TV card.)

One can "get by" with 1GB RAM with Vista. More is better, no doubt, but for
everyday stuff, 1GB works. Vista definitely has better memory management
than XP.

Major changes in the UI. It takes some "getting used to," no doubt. But...
Vista has a pretty kickin' search engine and even Control Panel has it's own
search capability in Vista so if one can't find the thing one's looking for
in CP easily, one can use CP's search to find it... it's worked great for me
thus far.

Better Help in Vista, imho.

There are issues with file copies in Vista. Don't know if SP1 will address
those issues, but it can be a major source of heartburn.

Many folks dislike User Account Control (UAC) intensely. I don't have a
problem with it. (It's intention is to make the box more secure... I can't
say that it's the most secure system, but it's a step up from XP's security,
I'm pretty sure.)

Mark,

Not sure about Home supporting "Complete PC Restore," which is what I assume
to which you refer. There are details on the MS website regarding the
features of the different Vista "flavors."

Good luck,

Lang
