Asked here, answered here. For everybody's benefit.

POP is Post Office Protocol, the way you receive email and move it to your
computer or to other applications like Outlook (as opposed to reading it thru
your browser, with most Hotmail and Yahoo email). I believe Hotmail and Yahoo
email charge extra for POP access, though GMail gives it to you free.

There are applications that give you free POP access to your Yahoo email, but I
am not sure whether I would trust them. I don't know about Hotmail at all, I
don't see any POP settings in my account, but it's a free one.

Pop is a post Office protocol. Setting POP3 account on remote machine has
advantage and disadvantages

Disadvantage: if you delete any email on your machine there is no way you
can read this email again deleting message on your machine will also delete
this email in your web mail account.

Advantage:
You can clean up your web mail account without visiting it on website and
you will always have enough space for your new emails.

POP3 can be access by Outlook I would suggest use outlook because it is
secure and reliable Now how to?

Start your MS outlook. go to the tools and select email account it will ask
you if you want to add new email or change to existing one choose add new
email account and select Next then you will be taken to server type select
pop enter all the required information but please NOTE in server information
table where Incoming email text field write pop3.yourdomainname.com and again
in out going mail text field smtp.yourdomainname.com

Now go to the log on information and give the same information which you use
to access your email on browser.

then test your connection if you get an error then select more setting and
select outgoing server now select my outgoing server(SMTP) requires
authentication check box and then Use same setting as my incoming mail server
radio button now you are done click ok and then test your email account as
you did before.

Click next and finish

Click on send and recive in you main tool bar it will download all the
messages I suggest if you have Antivirous programe make sure it has email
detection programe option enable

I hope my comments will help you in your research about POP3
Good luck by for now
