What to Use?

I have a large maintenance system running in paper mills. We are moving
towards Pocket PCs for the collection of lubrication and inspection
information of the equipment. I am a seasoned VB6 programmer and was wonder
what should I use to develop these apps. I know that eVB is free but have
heard it is dying and has problems.

I have VB.Net standard but It does not appear to have any tools for Pocket
PC development.

First, is eVB a bad choice, and, what version of VB.net (or visual Studio)
would I need to develop for pocket PC's?

I have visual studio 6 enterprise. What version of VS.net (should/can) I get
at a reasonable upgrade price?

Thanks,

Kim,

I'm not an expert of pricing, but you may want to look into purchasing the
MSDN Pro subscription (or higher) since it includes Visual Studio.Net Pro
(or higher), which is what you need to develop using VB.Net.

You are right that eVB is a bad choice for new development. I would
certainly recommend VB.Net as the better alternative for you. Once you get
going with VB.Net, be sure to check out all the free code at
www.opennetcf.org.

eVB is being phased out and is not supported for development on PPC2003 (you
can still run compiled eVB apps).
None of the "Standard" Visual Studio products includes Device tools. You
need VS2003 Professional or Enterprise
I am not sure about the current upgrade offers, but check CDW or similar
sites
