What rate to charge?

Sorry if this is not appropriate for this forum, if not, please let me know
where I can post this for some feedback.

I have an opportunity for a 6 month Access Database projectc in Salt Lake
City. During the 6 months I would maintain and enhance the current database
and help the current users (division) move it out to other divisions.
Possible moving the backend to SQL server down the road.

I was wondering what others think a fair market consulting rate would be for
SLC.
I have 20+ years programming experience and I've exclusively used Access
over the last 4 years.

Any thoughts or insight woud be welcomed.

Thank you.

There is a very wide range of rates charged for Access work by different
people in different circumstances -- from about $10 / hour to $250 / hour or
perhaps more, sometimes plus expenses. That, of course, is not likely to be
much help to you.

Only you can determine what rate you think you would want and what the
client would be willing to pay. Some factors would be (1) do you have to
relocate or be on temporary assignment (2) is there travel involved (3) what
level of expertise would you have to apply to perform the work (4) would you
find it interesting and would it enhance your abilities in Access (5) and
many other things pertinent to you.

In years past, I could have told you some starting rates for competent
Access developers in the Dallas - Fort Worth area, but there was a dropoff
in the local business economy a few years ago, and rates are just beginning
to recover, so I wouldn't quote the older rates now. They wouldn't
necessarily apply to SLC, in any case.

Yes, this newsgroup is mostly about technical questions and answers
regarding use of Microsoft Access database software, and there are
newsgroups in USENET that would likely provide better answers -- there are
some specific to consulting / contracting work. A good place to start
looking for such newsgroups would be http://groups.google.com.
