When are you trying to get the BIOS menus? If you see "Start Windows
Xp....." you are too far into the Windows start ups to access the
BIOS. You must try before you see this style of message.

I don't know your specific motherboard, but one common way is to press the
Del key when you first power on, but that's not necessarily right for your
computer. Watch the screen carefully when you first boot; there's often a
message there telling you what to do. If not, check your system
documentation or check with your vendor.

Make sure you are pressing the key early enough--it has to be done before
Windows starts to boot.

Within 1-3 secs of booting, when the text-only bios info is being
flashed before me, way way before the winXP screen.

As Per: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8S-X/e2387_a8s-x-se.pdf

during the Power On Self Test (POST) -- when the RAM memory is counted/
displayed,

press the <DEL> key.

I keep pressing the F2 key as soon as I turn on the computer. If the Windows
screen comes up, it's too late.

ALthough F2 may be right for you, it isn't right for everyone. It depends
entirely on what motherboard/BIOS you have.

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site doesn't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

Just a guess: do you have a Microsoft keyboard, one w/ the F-Lock key?

You must engage the F-Lock key quickly after you hear the beep, THEN press
the F2 to actually get an F2, otherwise you get the ms "special" function
that's on the F2 key ("Office Home" on mine).

Another possability: is it a USB keyboard? Then you may need to switch to
a regular borrowed ps2 keyboard first to get into bios and make sure the
"legacy usb" choice is turned on - then your usb keyboard aught to work in
the bios from there on out.
