I prefer 7-Zip. Professionally done interface. Easy to use. Never had
a problem.
Is WinZip better than the free ones?

Not necessarily. Depends on the free ones. Not better than 7-Zip.

3 out of 4 for 7-zip!

Maybe I just don't know how to use the Windows feature
but I had a zip file that I opened and tried to drag the entire contents to
another folder but got the error message that the system could not find the
file.

7-zip extracted with no error.

Thanks to all four of you

As far as I'm concerned, what's built into Windows works fine, and
there's no need to get any other one.

7 Zip all the way! Fantastic program. Very well layed out. Very
intuitive. Just a great product through and through. If all software
design was as good as this, computer service centers would probably go
bankrupt for lack of business!

For almost any question about free programs, try
http://www.techsupportalert.com/.
I found references to IZArc there, and decided I liked its version that can
be copied to a thumbdrive and be used with no installation required on the
computer you plug the thumbdrive into. Learn one program inside and out,
and you can carry the tool to any machine you want to use it on.
